Forty five (45) kindergarten students gathered around school officials and Mayor John Ekdah wielding shovels to break ground for a 23,000 sf addition, to be known as the academic enrichment building. It is the first expansion for the School in 20 years. NK Architects completed the master plan for the school which determined that the School needed an enrichment center comprised of specialty classrooms. The addition, to be located behind the school's main building, will house 3 science rooms, a new library and new state-of-the-art technology and art rooms. Construction will start June 8th and be completed in September 2010.

NK’s Tamara Iwaseczko and Paul Drago participated in the conference “Constructing the Economic Recovery” at the AIA Center for Architecture on April 21. Hosted by the Greater New York Construction User Council and the Building Trades Employers’ Association, the conference focused on how the New York design and construction industry can take advantage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. An important topic of discussion was infrastructure development and the aspects of green buildings and sustainable design. Research has shown that green buildings can cost less to operate, improve employee productivity, and have a positive impact on the environment. NK Architects has assisted a number of clients with navigating the many opportunities available toward achieving more sustainable buildings and campuses.
