Hudson County Community College - Library and Acedemic Building
Jersey City, New Jersey
A new 35,000 sf library and academic building will replace a severely undersized facility.
The new library will provide students with the most progressive and contemporary
amenities for college education.
The three-story building has a dedicated library occupying two floors. Large windows
and a two-story reading room let in appropriate North light as well as reinforce the
building’s importance to the community. The use of brick and granite details, arched
glass and a strong cornice are a reference to the traditional architecture of Journal
Square.
The plan is open and flexible to adapt and respond to ever-changing teaching and
library technologies. Reference and librarian staff are on the first floor. The second
level contains the collections, group study rooms, ample private reading tables and a
generous number of computer stations with wireless technology.
The third floor contains 12 multi-purpose classrooms, a student lounge and faculty
offices. A roof-top terrace is an added amenity and provides space for quiet reading
and student interaction.
