When completed, the new 16,500 gross square foot South Plainfield Public Library will be nearly three times the size of the Borough’s current library. Located on the same street as the existing building, the library will provide expanded services that are tailored to the Borough’s residents. New services include a drive-up window and an archive room that will house the South Plainfield Historical Society’s collection. The new facility will feature an expanded children’s craft room, a young adult room and an enclosed children’s room, as well as computer training and quiet study spaces. The remaining programs, administrative, adult collection, new materials and support spaces will complete the balance of the building. The design will allow for future expansion on a second level. The Library’s new location, contextural design, and flexibility for future expansion will provide the necessary community services for the next 20 years.
