State University of New York at New Paltz - Wooster Building Renovation
New Paltz, New York

NK Architects, in collaboration with Croxton Collaborative Architects, is providing design and construction administration services for the full renovation of the 72,000 sf Wooster Building at SUNY New Paltz. This building occupies a pivotal site on campus, and the renovation will convert a significant portion of the building into the primary student dining/lounge center for the academic campus. The balance of the building will be converted from antiquated science labs into flexible breakout, classroom and administrative functions. In addition to these functional changes, a key project goal is to completely recast the exterior image of the building, to create an open and inviting facility that speaks of its prominent function and location on campus. NK/Croxton's approach is based on gaining a deeper understanding of the college's master plan elements as they relate to Wooster Hall, especially the proposed Mohonk Walk along the north side of he building and the Academic Concourse along the west side. In addition, our concept for the recasting of the exterior of the building starts deep within the structure, and will be a reading of the deep daylighting approach which is the organizational force of the scheme. This project will be LEED Silver certified at minimum.
