PROJECTS
Department of Veteran Affairs - Spinal Cord Injury Center
Syracuse, New York

Through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National CARES program, the Syracuse VA Medical Center will receive a new 147,000 square foot addition, along with renovation of over 40,000 square feet of existing internal space. Included is a new 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, which will provide both inpatient and outpatient SCI rehabilitation services. A dedicated new pedestrian bridge will provide direct access to the VA facility for SCI patients from an adjacent parking structure, also being expanded.

The new addition and renovation will also accommodate the following functional components:

  • Surgery Suite / PACU and Surgery Administration
  • Sterile Processing Department
  • Spinal Cord Injury Therapy Pool
  • GI/Endoscopy
  • Team Red (outpatient) expansion
  • Outpatient Dialysis
  • Infusion/Outpatient Procedures
  • Outpatient Phlebotomy
  • GU Clinic
  • Same Day Surgery / Procedure
  • Respiratory Therapy / Sleep Labs Laundry & Building Support Services
  • Canteen and Dining /Warehouse expansion

The new addition resolves complex internal public, patient and material transport circulation issues. The new structure skillfully maximizes the potential of the extremely constrained urban site and has been designed to accommodate future vertical expansion
