NK Welcomes Back Marlene Borruso as Associate Principal
Published September 25, 2025
NK Architects is pleased to announce that Marlene Borruso has rejoined our team as an Associate Principal.
With over two decades of experience, Marlene brings a unique perspective to her work that is informed by a deep commitment to human-centered and sustainable design. During her previous tenure at NK, she played an instrumental role on projects within our education practice area, including the Middle and Upper Schools at Newark Academy, the Middle School at Chatham Day School, Montclair Kimberley Academy and the Landscape Horticulture Technology Building at County College of Morris.
On each of these projects, her role involved close collaboration with key stakeholders to develop solutions that met budget and schedule goals while also exceeding user expectations, both functionally and aesthetically.
Over the past several years, Marlene has broadened her expertise across sectors such as justice reform, supportive housing and behavioral health, deepening her understanding of trauma-informed design and principles that support neurodiverse populations. These experiences have sharpened her focus on creating environments that promote dignity, healing and equity, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities.
Marlene holds both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Building Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She has been an active leader in the ACE Mentor Program of New Jersey since 2003, serving as a Board of Trustees member since 2012. Marlene is a member of the American Institute of Architects, NCARB, the U.S. Green Building Council, Professional Women in Construction and the Society for College and University Planners.
Most recently, she co-presented with Rutgers University at the SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference on reimagining behavioral health care delivery and joined Camden County representatives at the New Jersey Association of Counties to discuss strategies for ending homelessness and achieving functional zero by 2030.
We’re excited to welcome Marlene back to NK Architects, where her expanded perspective and leadership will help advance our commitment to creating inclusive, supportive spaces where all individuals can thrive.
