PROJECT OVERVIEW
Serving a suburban patient population just beyond the city of Philadelphia, this project supports Penn Medicine’s strategy to expand access to cardiology and primary care services within a consolidated outpatient practice. The fit‑out accommodates planned growth of services in the region while supporting Penn Medicine’s commitment to delivering high‑quality care through efficient planning, clear workflows and a patient‑focused outpatient environment.
The project was delivered using Penn Medicine’s IPD‑lite model, supporting early and ongoing collaboration among the design team, builders and clinical stakeholders. This integrated approach enabled informed decision‑making throughout design and construction, streamlining the process of adapting the existing two-story office building into an outpatient medical facility. Program areas include cardiology, nuclear imaging and primary care services, along with patient waiting areas, staff workspaces and shared support spaces.
Cardiology and nuclear imaging services are located on the first floor, with the primary care practice occupying the second floor. Across both levels, the layout prioritizes operational clarity and efficiency, maximizes exam room capacity and supports clear patient, staff and clinical flows. Circulation and wayfinding are reinforced through access to daylight and views of the surrounding context, contributing to an intuitive and welcoming patient experience. Close collaboration during programming also supported refinements to Penn Medicine’s outpatient design standards, aligning clinical and operational needs with brand consistency.
A guiding principle for the project is integrated coordination, leveraging the IPD‑lite framework to support the seamless incorporation of specialized cardiology equipment, infrastructure upgrades and life‑safety requirements. Early coordination with project partners enabled alignment between space planning, building systems and future growth considerations while maintaining consistency with Penn Medicine’s outpatient standards.
At Penn Cardiology & Family Medicine Chestnut Hill, the completed fit‑out delivers a modern outpatient environment that supports integrated care, operational efficiency and long‑term adaptability. Through a collaborative delivery model, the project supports Penn Medicine’s clinical goals while providing durable, high‑performing spaces for patients and staff.
