PROJECT OVERVIEW
Serving a suburban patient population just beyond the city of Philadelphia, this project supports Penn Medicine’s strategy to expand access to cardiology and primary care services within a shared, community‑oriented outpatient facility. The project is designed to accommodate planned growth of services in the region while reinforcing Penn Medicine’s commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care delivered close to where their patients live and work.
To support the transformation of the two‑story office building into a healthcare practice, the design scope required accommodations for specialized clinical equipment and significant infrastructure upgrades, including new air handling units and a transformer upgrade.
The program locates cardiology and nuclear imaging services on the first floor, with Penn’s primary care practice occupying the second floor. On both levels of the building, the layout prioritizes operational clarity and efficiency, maximizes exam room capacity and supports clear patient, staff and clinical flows. Circulation and wayfinding are reinforced through a prioritization of daylight and views of the surrounding community, contributing to an intuitive and welcoming patient experience. Close collaboration with Penn Medicine during programming also led to refinements of the client’s design standards, aligning clinical needs, operational goals and brand consistency across outpatient settings.
A key driver of the project’s complexity includes the integration of specialized cardiology equipment required for nuclear testing, which demanded extensive coordination with the equipment vendor and required careful alignment of space planning, structural and shielding requirements, power and cooling demands and life‑safety systems.
Together, these efforts deliver a modern and efficient clinical environment that supports integrated cardiac and primary care services, accommodates advanced imaging and positions the facility for future growth, advancing Penn Medicine’s goal of expanding access to advanced outpatient care within the region.
